The Newfoundland Regiment are moving on in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoffs after a 7-3 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Sunday.

The victory gives Newfoundland a 4-2 win in the best-of-seven first-round series.

The Regiment opened the scoring less than a minute into the game and carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Newfoundland broke the game open in the second period, scoring four times — including multiple power-play goals — to take control.

Cape Breton responded early in the third period with two goals to cut into the deficit, but could not get any closer. The Regiment added an empty-net goal late to secure the win.

Newfoundland advances to the second round. Their next opponent has not yet been determined.
