

Holiday Lights at Bowring Park today
The Holiday Lights at Bowring Park will be going ahead today at 5:00 p.m. There will be local entertainment, free hot chocolate, and the official lighting of the park at the Bowring Park Duck Pond. The St. John’s Lions Club will be serving free hot chocolate; bring a reusable mug. The Community Food Sharing Association will also be on-site, collecting non-perishable food items for the food bank. The holiday lights will remain on display until January 14, 2026.

MSC Baltic III sustains more damage

The Container Ship, grounded near Wild Cove, has sustained significant additional damage, including a noticeable change in the condition of the steel plate buckling on the starboard and port sides of the vessel, according to the Canadian Coast Guard. Lane reduction today on Portugal Cove Road at Major's Path
Today from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. there will be lane reductions and delays in the westbound lane of Portugal Cove Road near and at the intersection with Major's Path. The reduction is to facilitate exploratory work for the Major’s Path and Portugal Cove Road Improvements project. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and the public is asked to follow all posted signage and personnel in the area.

TCH closed near Thorburn Lake due to crash
UPDATE: Clarenville RCMP advises that one lane of the Trans Canada Highway has re-opened to alternating traffic. The RCMP has advised that Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions west of Clarenville near Thorburn Lake. The closure is due to a crash involving a tractor trailer.
