Our Story

Current logo

Newfound News was launched in May 2016 to fill a vital gap: comprehensive news coverage across the entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We believe that news matters to everyone — no matter where you live in our province. That’s why we cover stories from Labrador to the West Coast, from Central to the Avalon.

As an independently-owned news organization based in St. John’s, we are committed to providing factual information without agenda or editorializing.

Our Mission

Our purpose is simple, but essential: to inform our audience of newsworthy events while remaining impartial and fair, because a well-informed public is the backbone of our democracy.

What We Do
  • Provincial coverage — We strive to ensure that every corner of Newfoundland and Labrador has access to news that matters to them.

  • Fact-based reporting — Accuracy, fairness, and transparency guide our journalism.

  • Local focus with provincial reach — While based in St. John’s, we maintain a dedicated team so that no matter where you live, you know what's happening in your town.

  • Independent voice — Free from corporate influence, we are accountable first to our readers.

Why It Matters

In today’s fast-moving media landscape, stories can get lost or skewed. At Newfound News, we make it our goal to bring you the local — and the vital provincial — stories with clarity and integrity. Because when residents are informed, communities thrive.
