Canada edges Czechia in overtime to reach Olympic men’s hockey semifinal

Canada is heading to the semifinals in men’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics after a 4-3 overtime win over Czechia on Wednesday.
Mitch Marner scored 1:22 into overtime to lift Canada to victory in the quarterfinal at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. Marner beat Czech goaltender Lukáš Dostál with a backhand to complete the comeback.
Canada forced extra time when Nick Suzuki tipped a point shot from Devon Toews past Dostál with 3:27 remaining in the third period.
Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring for Canada in the first period, beating Dostál for his fifth goal of the tournament. Czechia responded with goals from Lukas Sedlak and David Pastrnak to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Nathan MacKinnon tied the game 2-2 in the second period on a power play, finishing a setup from Connor McDavid. Czechia regained the lead in the third before Suzuki’s late equalizer sent the game to overtime.
Jordan Binnington made key saves down the stretch to secure the win for Canada.
With the victory, Canada advances to Friday’s semifinal and is guaranteed to play for a medal.
