The RCMP's Major Crimes Unit has charged 30-year-old David Faucher with first-degree murder in connection with the homicide of Franz Drosch in Happy Valley-Goose Bay back in August of 2023. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Faucher, who is the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant and actively evading police. The federal government has announced the opening of the scallop fishery in Scallop Fishing Area 2 this morning. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans said the fishery opened at 6 a.m., allowing harvesters to begin fishing in the designated area. Fish harvesters are being encouraged to review the latest fishery notices and regulations before heading to sea. DFO publishes notices for all commercial fisheries through its online Fishery Notices system.
