On September 20 Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron on the French islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon off the south coast of Newfoundland.
The meeting is in response to an image posted online by U.S. President Donald Trump which showed North America and parts of South America covered in an American flag.
Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is an archipelago of eight islands; it is 242 square kilometres and has a population of about 5,500.
This visit to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon will be the first from a Canadian Prime Minister and the first time the President of France has visited since 2014.
