Victoria elects new council

Voters in the Town of Victoria elected seven new councillors during the municipal election held on May 14.
In total, 837 ballots were cast out of 1,409 eligible voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 59.4 percent.
The elected councillors, listed by number of votes received, were:
Sharon Penney — 564 votes
Kelly Loch — 478 votes
David Doran — 457 votes
Wade Baldwin — 453 votes
Lynette Ross (Clarke) — 425 votes
Irene Stevenson — 402 votes
Anneliese Snook — 375 votes
Defeated candidates for councillor included:
David Clarke — 374 votes
Jim Layden — 329 votes
Jerry J. Burden — 312 votes
Freeman Parsons — 268 votes
S. Shelley Dawe — 243 votes
Dion Penney — 205 votes
Paul Snow — 82 votes
Janice Slade — 66 votes
Paul Hanlon — 47 votes
Back in December, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs fired the town council in Victoria.
The council, including the mayor, was removed from office, and a temporary administrator from the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs was appointed to provide local governance to the town.
