Three men have been arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion and a subsequent attempted murder that police say were targeted attacks involving individuals known to one another.
The incidents occurred in the early morning hours of July 3 and prompted a joint investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Major Crimes Unit, East District General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section.
According to police, officers with the Trinity-Conception District RCMP first responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence in Harbour Grace. Investigators allege three suspects forced their way into the home and assaulted one occupant with a weapon. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
While investigating that incident, police received a report of a hit-and-run involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian outside a second residence in the community. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital.
RCMP say the investigation determined the two incidents were connected. Police allege the hit-and-run was an act of retaliation related to the earlier break-in and assault.
Three suspects were later located and arrested without incident.
Police charged Christopher Bursey, 44, with robbery, breaking and entering with intent, aggravated assault, disguise with intent, and failure to comply with a condition of a release order.
Steven Clowe, 36, was charged with robbery, breaking and entering with intent, and aggravated assault.
Meanwhile, Travis Hunt, 39, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run and has been charged with attempted murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be laid.
No further details are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
