U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States has captured Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela.
In a press conference this afternoon, Trump said the United States will run Venezuela indefinitely. There was no timeline provided for how long the U.S. would run the country.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi said that Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.
There were no U.S. fatalities during the operation, but some were injured, according to Trump.
Overnight, several explosions were seen in Venezuela.
Maduro has served as the president of Venezuela since 2013. He served as the vice president under President Hugo Chávez from 2012 to 2013, and minister of foreign affairs from 2006 to 2012.
