A 68-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening after assaulting a police officer during an incident at a restaurant in downtown St. John's.
The RNC responded to a restaurant on Water Street at about 7:12 p.m. on April 15 following reports that staff were restraining an irate man who was not permitted inside.
Police say the man had left the scene before officers arrived but was located a short distance away. During the investigation, the accused allegedly punched an officer in the chest.
He was taken into custody without further incident and charged with assaulting a police officer and two counts of breaching a release order.
The man was taken to the city lockup and was being held to appear in court.
