Sea Dogs defeat Newfoundland Regiment 4–2 in home opener

The Newfoundland Regiment held their first game of the season on Friday night when they hosted the Saint John Sea Dogs.


Saint John took control early, scoring twice in the opening period to take a 2–0 lead into the intermission.


The Sea Dogs added two more goals in the second period, extending their advantage to 4–0 heading into the final frame.


The Newfoundland Regiment responded in the third period with two goals, cutting the deficit in half and making a late push. However, Saint John held on to secure the 4–2 victory.


The Sea Dogs also held the advantage on special teams, converting three of five power-play opportunities. The Regiment went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.


Saint John outshot Newfoundland 39–27.


The two teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m. NDT at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
