The Newfoundland and Labrador government is investing $475,000 in a one-year project aimed at expanding online workforce training and digital credentials across the province.

The funding, provided through the Labour Market Partnerships program, will support SkillsPass NL 2.0, a demonstration project led by St. John’s-based workforce training company Bluedrop ISM.

SkillsPass is a platform designed to manage workforce training, skills development and digital credentials. Through the project, Bluedrop will work with employers, industry associations, regulators and training institutions to expand access to online training and digital credentials.

The initiative will focus on priority occupations and sectors, developing strategic partnerships and integrating digital credentials into hiring and training practices.

The project will also measure the impact of digital credentials on workforce participation and labour market outcomes.

The provincial government says the initiative is intended to help address workforce challenges, improve access to skills training and strengthen connections between employers and training providers.

Funding for SkillsPass NL 2.0 comes through the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement.
