NL Hydro issues Power Watch

Due to local weather conditions and the presence of frazil ice on the Bay d’Espoir system, NL Hydro is advising customers that a Power Watch will be in effect for the Island this morning.

A Power Watch means the system is being closely monitored, but no action is required by customers at this time.

Frazil ice is a slushy form of ice that develops in lakes and rivers during cold, windy conditions. It can accumulate and create ice jams that may affect hydroelectric generation and municipal water systems.
