The 2025 Governor General’s Literary Awards finalists have just been announced.
A writer from this province has been added to the poetry shortlist.
Island, by Newfoundland writer Douglas Walbourne-Gough, is centred around the Newfoundland Mi'kmaq experience in the wake of the controversial Qalipu First Nation enrolment process. The book explores the fractured identity and the mistrust that continues to linger in many communities.
The Governor General’s Literary Awards are one of the oldest and most prestigious literary prizes in Canada.
