Heavy rain, snow, and strong winds to batter province
Beginning tonight a low will impact Newfoundland and Labrador and will continue through Sunday. The low will bring heavy rain, snow, and strong winds.
Along the west and south coast areas west of the Burin Peninsula, rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are expected. The Avalon Peninsula could see rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm and about 10 to 20 mm for central sections of the Island.
Across Newfoundland, winds will gust to 100 km/h. Areas from Corner Brook to Port aux Basques along the south coast and the Avalon Peninsula could see winds over 100 km/h along some areas of the coast. In the Wreckhouse area, gusts to 150 km/h are expected.
Power outages are expected.
Southeastern Labrador will also see rain with 30 to 50 mm expected. For Upper Lake Melville, Cartwright to Black Tickle and Eagle River it will be snow with potentially 30 cm on the menu.
Due to the severe weather expected today, Marine Atlantic has cancelled all crossings.
