Government announces income program for youth receiving housing services

The provincial government will be implementing a new Basic Income Program for youth receiving residential services through the voluntary Youth Services Program.

Approximately 300 youth clients between the ages of 16 and 21 who receive residential services are currently provided with financial and other supports. As of January 1, 2023, these youth are eligible to receive increased financial benefits and additional supports to help them engage in or transition to the workforce and/or an education program.

This new targeted program will include additional financial supports of over $600 monthly and will enhance existing wrap-around supports such as financial and employment counselling, mental health and addictions supports, tutoring and other educational supports, and life skills programming.
