RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador arrested four motorists for impaired driving over the weekend in separate incidents across the province.

The arrests occurred in Grand Falls-Windsor, Deer Lake, Clarenville, and Natuashish. Each driver has been charged with impaired operation, received a licence suspension, and had their vehicle seized and impounded.

The first incident happened late Friday night, September 26, when police in Grand Falls-Windsor responded to a report of a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the Trans-Canada Highway. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested a 73-year-old man who failed a roadside test and later provided breath samples twice the legal alcohol limit.

On Sunday, September 28, at about 12:40 a.m., Deer Lake RCMP responded to reports of a suspected impaired driver. Officers found a vehicle crashed along the Trans-Canada Highway and arrested a 28-year-old man, who provided breath samples over the legal limit after being medically cleared at the scene.

Just after 2:00 a.m. the same morning, Clarenville RCMP stopped a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot on Manitoba Drive. A 40-year-old woman was arrested after failing a roadside breath test. Police say her breath samples later confirmed alcohol levels above the legal limit.

Later that evening, at 6:11 p.m., RCMP officers in Natuashish encountered a 22-year-old woman showing signs of alcohol impairment. She was arrested and found in possession of three flasks and a bag of suspected cocaine. Police say her breath samples were well above the legal limit. In addition to impaired driving, she faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
