Clarenville has been named Newfoundland and Labrador’s Most Active Community as part of the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

The nationwide initiative is aimed at encouraging Canadians to get moving and prioritize their physical and mental health.

Throughout the month of June, a total of 330 events, programs, and activities were tracked. From weekly hikes to team sports, lunchtime walking groups to intergenerational movement activities.

There were events such as Clarenville’s first-ever Pride Walk, participation by over 60 local organizations, with 47 actively tracking activity, nearly 20,000 individual activity instances recorded, engagement from diverse groups, and a yarn bombing installation.

ParticipACTION awards between $7,500 and $15,000 to communities from each province and territory.

Richmond, B.C., has been named Canada's Most Active Community and awarded the $100,000 grand prize.
