Newfoundland has some amazing fall colour spots. If you’re planning a trip, here are some of the best places to visit.
Gros Morne National Park & Route 430
Dramatic scenery including mountains, fjords, and colourful forests. The Route 430 drive is especially scenic. While there, you can go hiking the Tablelands or Gros Morne Mountain with lookouts along the route. Drive slowly and stop often.
Humber Valley (near Corner Brook, Western Newfoundland)
Birch, maples, and deciduous trees contrast beautifully with evergreens and river valleys. Especially good views from high vantage points. Try the Humber Valley Trail, drive along the river, or take hikes around the valley slopes. Marble Mountain has great views.
Terra Nova National Park
Coastal forest, bays, and estuaries, so you get a mix of colours plus water reflections. Do the Coastal Trail, and hike Ochre Hill Trail. Also good for birdwatching.
St. John’s and Avalon Peninsula
Even near the city, there are beautiful parks, trails, and vivid colours. Hike parts of the East Coast Trail, take photo walks in Quidi Vidi, The Battery, or around the city valleys.
Torngat Mountains and Labrador
More remote, but the tundra and mountains and early fall colours farther north can be breathtaking. If you’re adventurous, guided tours or boat/fjord excursions are the way to go. Be prepared for rugged conditions.
