An area of low pressure will approach Newfoundland from the south and deliver snow, rain, and strong winds to the Island portion of the province in much the same fashion as the storm we saw on Christmas Day.
Areas of eastern and southeastern Newfoundland will see snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm. The snow will likely switch to rain early on Sunday morning. Winds will gust between 80 and 100 km/h.
Along the south coast, 10 to 20 cm is expected with wind gusts between 70 and 90 km/h.
Northeastern Newfoundland areas will receive 20 to 40 cm of snow with winds from 70 to 90 km/h. While 40 to 60 cm could fall in the Green Bay and White Bay region, and winds from 80 to 110 km/h are expected.
Western Newfoundland will also see heavy snow with 30 to 40 cm expected. On the Great Northern Peninsula, 15 to 25 cm could fall with winds gusting up to 110 km/h.
Conditions across the Island will improve on Sunday morning.
Labrador is also seeing its fair share of winter weather. Beginning Saturday night, coastal areas will see heavy snow and strong winds, causing blowing snow and poor visibility. Over the southern portions of the coast, the snow may also mix with or change to rain before ending.
