Good morning and Merry Christmas.
This morning, we have snow across many areas of Newfoundland. Today, we will see widespread snow and blowing snow. The snow will shift to rain along the east and southeast by this afternoon.
Strong winds will accompany the system, causing reduced visibility in many areas.
Eastern Newfoundland and Avalon Peninsula
Snow, at times heavy this morning, especially inland and across the northern Avalon. Snow will transition to rain by the afternoon in most areas.
Snowfall of 10 to 25 cm is possible before the changeover, with 5 to 10 mm of rain this afternoon, where temperatures rise above freezing.
Strong winds with gusts up to 80 to 100 km/h at times.
Central and Northern Newfoundland
Snow, at times heavy, through much of today. Areas near Gander and northward will receive 15 to 30 cm of snow. There will be strong winds.
Western and Southern Newfoundland
More mixed conditions with periods of snow or flurries, but less heavy snow than the central/northern and eastern areas.
