Snow expected overnight for parts of the Island

For most of the Avalon, central, and the Burin Peninsula, snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 cm are expected. On the Avalon Peninsula Southeast, snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm could fall tonight. Cloudy periods are expected overnight along the west coast. Lows tonight will range from minus 16 on the Great Northern Peninsula and central to minus 6 on the Avalon.


Cloudy periods are expected tonight across Labrador with lows ranging from minus 31 to minus 19.

Christmas Day

A system will push across Newfoundland on Christmas Day. It will spread snow across the Island with the exception of the southwest coast. Snow on the Avalon will change to rain in the afternoon. Winds will gust between 60 and 110 km/h.


Snow will move into coastal Labrador on Friday. Winds could gust between 100 and 120 km/h.

  • St. John's 15-20 cm and 10-15 mm of rain

  • Gander 25-35 cm

  • Grand Falls-Windsor 15-20 cm

  • Corner Brook 5-10 cm

  • Cartwright 20-30 cm
