Woman arrested in Doyles for drug impaired driving, drugs and weapon seized

A 44-year-old woman is under investigation for drug impaired driving following a traffic stop that was conducted in Doyles by RCMP Traffic Services West on August 31, 2024.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, RCMP Traffic Services West and Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP stopped a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway in Doyles. The driver, who was suspended from driving, showed signs of drug impairment. She failed a roadside sobriety test, resisted arrest and was arrested for impaired driving.

A quantity of suspected cocaine, a prohibited weapon and drug trafficking paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle.

The driver was transported to the Dr. Charles Legrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques where a blood sample was obtained. The investigation is continuing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.

The woman was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to face the following charges:

Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine

Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon

Possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing its possession is unauthorized

Possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle

Resisting arrest

Driving while suspended – Highway Traffic Act

Her vehicle was seized and impounded. The investigation is continuing.
