St. John’s Couple Wins $5 Million Lotto 6/49 Jackpot

A St. John’s couple is celebrating a $5-million lottery win after matching all six numbers in the August 26, 2026, Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw.
Scott Ennis and Susan Avery said the news took some time to sink in after Ennis discovered the winning ticket while at work the morning after the draw.
Ennis initially noticed an email from Atlantic Lottery about a prize but assumed it was a smaller win. Later, after hearing people at work discussing a $5-million winning ticket in Newfoundland and Labrador, he checked his previous tickets online.
The result left him stunned.
“It started going with confetti and said ‘$5 million,’ and I just sat there, didn’t make a sound,” Ennis said.
With a meeting scheduled just minutes later, Ennis told his manager something personal had come up and left work to share the news with Avery.
Avery recalled receiving a text asking her to meet Ennis in the parking lot, where she could immediately see the emotion on his face.
The couple say they plan to continue working for now, but intend to invest much of their winnings with the goal of retiring within a few years.
They also plan to help loved ones, renovate their home, purchase a new vehicle and take a family vacation.
“We knew it was going to change our lives, but also our daughters’ lives,” Avery said.
The winning ticket was purchased online through Atlantic Lottery at alc.ca.
The Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday, offering a $5-million Classic Jackpot and a Gold Ball Jackpot that starts at $10 million and can grow beyond $60 million.
