Winter activity centre opens at Pippy Park

The Winter Activity Centre at Pippy Park opened for the season on Saturday.

Located at the North Bank Lodge, the centre marks the start of winter recreation at the park, which has been prepared for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and skate skiing. Trails are free to use and may be lit for evening activity, depending on conditions.

Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available for all ages, including skis, boots, poles and snowshoes. Payment is accepted by debit or credit card only, and users are required to complete a waiver either in person or online in advance.

Rental hours run from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Rental rates are $5 per hour for an individual, $10 per hour for a family of three, and $15 per hour for families of four to six people.

Drop-in group lessons for classic cross-country skiing are also being offered. Lessons are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are weather dependent.
