Why we have closed comments on Facebook

At Newfound News we believe we have an obligation to protect the subjects of our stories, those who comment, and our staff. As a result, we have closed commenting on our page.

Some people have decided to use our platform to post harmful, threatening, and vulgar comments. We cannot allow this. While the vast majority of those who interact with us are thoughtful, informative, and engaging, we cannot allow people with malicious intentions to comment.

It has become increasingly difficult to monitor all of the comments posted on our page.

There is a lot of information available online, some of it is wrong and some of it is right. We have always and will always post facts. We do not editorialize and we strive to be as accurate as possible. There are people who do not believe facts and that is where the vast majority of harmful comments come from.

There has been an increase in threats, harassment, and abuse. As a result, we will be disabling comments until February 28, 2022. At that time we will reaccess.
