WestJet flight attendants have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate, giving their bargaining committee a strong position as contract negotiations continue with the airline.
According to results released by the union representing the flight attendants, 99.4 per cent of members who cast ballots voted in favour of strike action. Member participation in the vote reached 97.3 per cent.
Union officials described the results as a clear signal that members are united in their efforts to secure a new collective agreement.
The union said the strong mandate will bolster its bargaining committee as it continues negotiations aimed at achieving improvements in wages, working conditions, scheduling practices and job security.
While the vote authorizes potential strike action, it does not mean a work stoppage is imminent. The union indicated further instructions will be provided to members as negotiations progress.
