The Newfoundland and Labrador government has secured $700,000 in federal funding to strengthen crisis hotline services for individuals experiencing gender-based violence across the province.

The investment will be distributed over five years and is intended to help crisis hotline providers maintain and enhance trauma-informed support services.

Crisis hotline services in Newfoundland and Labrador are currently provided by End Sexual Violence NL and the Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The provincial investment forms part of a broader national commitment of $31 million over five years, along with $6.2 million in ongoing funding.

During the gathering, Women and Gender Equality Canada also announced $607.4 million over four years, beginning in 2027-28, to continue implementation of the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.

The latest funding builds on a previous federal commitment announced in 2022-23, which provided $539.3 million over five years to support provinces and territories implementing the national action plan. Newfoundland and Labrador received $13.6 million through that initial agreement.
