Wanted man arrested after attempted escape in St. John’s

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody early Friday morning following a brief foot chase and struggle with police in the west end of St. John’s.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., an RNC officer conducted a routine traffic safety stop. During the stop, the officer identified a wanted individual seated in the back of the vehicle.

As a backup officer arrived on the scene, the suspect attempted to flee on foot toward a nearby residence. He was unable to gain entry to the home, and officers quickly apprehended him following a short struggle.

The man was transported to the St. John’s lockup and is facing charges of breaching a release order and resisting arrest.
