Victim hospitalized after shooting in Grand Falls-Windsor; RCMP investigating

RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador are investigating a shooting at a residence in Grand Falls-Windsor that left one person seriously injured.
Police say officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Main Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, they located a victim inside the residence suffering from serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
The individual was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to St. John’s for advanced medical care.
Investigators believe the incident was targeted and say there is no risk to public safety.
A witness provided a description of a vehicle used by the suspect to leave the scene. Officers located the vehicle a short time later and found a deceased individual nearby. Police say they do not believe criminality was involved in that person’s death.
The RCMP Major Crime Unit West is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
Police say no further details will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of the victim.
