Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is providing an update on the new Urgent Care Centre in St. John’s.
The centre is continuing to see a high number of patients since opening, with approximately 100 patients receiving care on January 12.
It is expected that there will be an increase in demand. If the centre is unable to see new patients due to the daily demand, the phone number (709-777-9111) and voicemail will be updated to advise patients. Before presenting to the urgent care centre, individuals may wish to call ahead.
Examples of mild to moderate conditions that are appropriate for urgent care include injury assessment such as sprains, strains and minor breaks, skin infections, burns and cuts, respiratory infections with fever, cough and/or shortness of breath, stomach illness with nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, and urinary tract infections.
Urgent care is not suitable for serious medical problems such as chest pain, breathing problems or stroke or stroke-like symptoms.
There are other options for care including in person primary care at the Community Walk-In Clinic at 50 Mundy Pond Road in St. John’s. Virtual primary care is available and 811 can also assist. As always, those with an emergency should call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department.
