Update today on booster shots and COVID-19 cases

Dr. Fitzgerald provided an update today on booster shots.

The first boosters will be available for those aged 12 to 17 pending 22 weeks have passed since their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This will begin on April 25.

For those aged 70 and older, second booster shots will be rolled out in the near future. This dose will be for those in long term care, community senior centres etc.

Anyone who is indigenous or lives in an indigenous community will also be eligible for second booster shots.

Everyone else will be able to book appointments after April 25. Fitzgerald says most people will be eligible by May or June.

The mask mandate will continue in schools after the Easter breaks and likely for another month.

Today there are 246 new cases of COVID-19 and on Tuesday there were 205 cases. There are 32 people in the hospital, six of which are in critical care. There have been seven more deaths.
