The provincial government says the Special Assistance Grant Program continues to provide critical support to communities across Newfoundland and Labrador facing emergencies and unexpected financial pressures.
Speaking in the House of Assembly, Minister Tibbs said the program offers emergency financial assistance to municipalities, local service districts and non-profit community organizations.
The funding is used to address urgent issues related to health and safety, infrastructure repairs, financial challenges and special community projects.
According to the minister, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs received nearly 190 applications through the program last year.
Tibbs said each application reflected a community dealing with an emergency situation and seeking timely assistance from the province.
The minister described the program as community-driven, adding that applications are acknowledged quickly and reviewed carefully to ensure decisions are fair, fiscally responsible and based on community need.
