RNC Arrests Man in Connection With Downtown St. John’s Assault

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers responded to a reported assault on Water Street around 3:45 a.m. on October 10.

When police arrived, the victim had already left the scene to seek medical treatment for serious injuries. The suspect had fled on foot.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Shane Mackey.

The RNC Major Crime Unit later joined the investigation, and a warrant was issued for Mackey’s arrest.

Investigators determined Mackey had left the province while evading police.

Police arrested Mackey in St. John’s on November 7.

He has been charged with aggravated assault and was held to appear in court.
