Two women arrested following bizarre incident at Carbonear Mall


The RCMP have charged two women after a bizarre incident at the Trinity Conception Square mall in Carbonear on Wednesday.


Police responded to a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred at one of the retailers in the mall.


The suspect was identified as being under a court-ordered condition to stay away from the store.


While en route, officers received a separate report that two women had just assaulted an employee at a kiosk and were running through the mall, damaging other stores and threatening other employees and patrons.


Police arrested 32-year-old Alyshia George of Old Shop and 50-year-old Catherine Thorne of Victoria without further incident.


George has been charged with six counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failure to appear.


Thorne, who has a number of outstanding matters awaiting disposition before the courts and is subject to multiple undertakings, is facing two charges of assault, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, uttering threats to damage or destroy property, two charges of causing a disturbance, and failure to comply with a probation order.
