Two people deceased in multi-vehicle collision on TCH in Grand Falls-Windsor #nltraffic

RCMP has confirmed that two men are deceased following a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on Tuesday on the TCH in Grand Falls-Windsor.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP received a report of a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the TCH near the Scott Avenue entrance. About five minutes later, as officers were responding to this call, a multi-vehicle collision was reported on the highway.

Police attended the scene of the collision which involved three vehicles – two cars and a truck towing a utility trailer. The investigation determined that a car was travelling west in the eastbound lanes of the divided highway and met two oncoming vehicles. The second car was pulling out to pass the truck and trailer when the collision between the two cars occurred. The car that was passing the truck then collided with the trailer of the truck and caught fire. The driver of that car was ejected. The occupants of the truck were uninjured.

The drivers of both cars, ages 57 and 69, died at the scene.

A Collision Analyst with RCMP Traffic Services Central attended the collision and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged.

The investigation is continuing.
