Two individuals charged with obstruction following traffic stop
On Thursday the RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Stephenville that was driving erratically.
The driver of the vehicle produced a valid driver’s licence. The male passenger did not produce a piece of identification but verbally provided his identity to the police. his identity was also confirmed by the driver.
Later, officers determined that a false identity had been provided and confirmed the identity of the passenger as Timothy Blake. Blake had two outstanding arrest warrants, one of which was for a charge of assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
The vehicle was located a short time later travelling in Stephenville, where it was stopped for a second time. The driver was arrested without incident for obstructing a police officer.
Blake refused to exit the vehicle and locked the doors. He was removed from the vehicle and arrested.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to court at a later date to face a charge of obstruction.
Timothy Blake was charged with obstructing a police officer, failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to comply with a release order.
The investigation is ongoing.
