Two men have been charged after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigated a break and enter involving heavy equipment at a Mount Pearl bank earlier this year.
Police say officers with Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of a break-in on Commonwealth Avenue in the early morning hours of Jan. 13.
When officers arrived, they found extensive damage to the building and an excavator believed to have been used in the crime.
Following an investigation, 30-year-old Joshua Weir was charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $5,000, mischief over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation.
His co-accused, 61-year-old Lawrence Whelan, faces charges of break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $5,000, and mischief over $5,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
