The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a man and a woman following an investigation into alleged sexual violence involving a youth in St. John’s.

Police say the investigation began on May 7 after officers received a report of sexual violence against a child. The RNC’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit took over the case and has since carried out several search warrants, including at a home in the city’s centre. The investigation remains ongoing.

On May 9, a 45-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were arrested and charged. Both were held in custody to appear in court.

The man faces multiple charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference, making child pornography, incest, bestiality, and permitting sexual activity in a residence.

The woman is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, making child pornography, incest, invitation to sexual touching, exposing genital organs, and permitting sexual activity in a residence.

A court-ordered publication ban is in place to protect the identity of the youth involved, prohibiting the release of any information that could identify the victim or the accused.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
