The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary arrested two women following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle late Monday night in downtown St. John’s.

Around 11:07 p.m. on October 27, officers spotted a reported stolen vehicle being driven in the city centre. When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled.

The vehicle was pursued and came to a stop in the downtown area, where the two occupants tried to run away on foot. Officers quickly caught both suspects.

During the incident, the driver struck a stop sign and left the vehicle in drive, causing it to roll into a parked car.

A 36-year-old woman was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, and breaching court orders. She also had an outstanding arrest warrant and was held for a court appearance in the morning.

The 33-year-old passenger, who also had a warrant for her arrest, was taken into custody and held for court as well.
