Tragic end to search for missing Port aux Basques woman
The body of a missing woman from Port aux Basques has been located.
The 73-year-old female was reported missing on Saturday morning after her home was damaged by Hurricane Fiona.
RCMP officers located the body in the water shortly before 4:00 pm Sunday afternoon.
Police were assisted by the Canadian Coast Guard, as well as Stephenville and Barachois Search and Rescue teams.
The body is being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination.
So very sad. My condolences to this woman’s family. Horrible feeling having family there and knowing you can’t help them. I’m relieved my family are all safe. My daughter and her boyfriend were caught in it in PEI and trying to get home to Alberta. My thoughts are with all the families affected and I pray everyone gets through it. ❤️
