On Wednesday night, just after 9:00 p.m. Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Torbay Road.

Upon arrival, officers could hear a disturbance inside the home and recognized the 40-year-old male resident due to his violent history. As police entered and began speaking with individuals inside, they were confronted at knife point by the resident.

Additional units were called to the scene, and through de-escalation and negotiation tactics, police were able to effect an arrest. Following a struggle and subsequent investigation, the 40-year-old suspect was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon on police, two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count of resisting arrest.

The accused was taken to the city lockup and held for a court appearance.
