Torbay Home Destroyed by fire on Sunday Evening

Firefighters with the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department were called to the home on Woodbridge Lane in Torbay just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening for a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy smoke and fire could be seen shooting out of the roof of the home. A short time after crews arrived, parts of the roof did collapse, making it a very intense fire for crews to extinguish.

A mutual aid request was made, dispatching crews and trucks from Portugal Cove—St. Philip's and Pouch Cove Volunteer Fire Departments.

Crews used at least four trucks to shuttle water to the scene as there are no fire hydrants in the area.

Neighbours were able to confirm that the residents were not home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters did utilize an excavator to move the contents of the home and knocked down the structure to extinguish the blaze.

One firefighter was treated on scene by NLHS Paramedics for an unknown reason. It is unknown if they were taken to hospital.

The road was closed as crews worked for hours to extinguish the blaze.
