Today is Terry Fox Day in Newfoundland and Labrador. The provincial government is encouraging all residents to consider participating in Terry Fox Day events.
The annual Terry Fox Run takes place today across the country, including in locations across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Additionally, the Terry Fox School Run takes place on Friday, September 22.
After being diagnosed with bone cancer in 1977 and having his leg amputated above the knee, Terry saw the suffering of other cancer patients in hospital and set the goal of running across Canada to raise money for cancer research. The Marathon of Hope began and ended in 1980, but not before Terry raised an incredible $24.17 million.
