Today is National Test Your Smoke Alarm Day.

The Provincial Government is calling on all residents to test home smoke alarms today to ensure they are in good working order.

In the event of a fire, the best chance to keep you and your family safe is with a working smoke alarm, and to be “Saved by the Beep”.

“Saved by the Beep” is a national call to action to ensure all smoke alarms in your home are in good working order. In Newfoundland and Labrador, smoke alarms are required to be installed in every room of a residence, including cabins, cottages, RVs, trailers and vacation homes.

Last year, there were approximately 742 reported fire-related incidents in the province, including residential structure fires and electrical fires, with five fire-related deaths.
