Newfoundland and Labrador's Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs will join provincial and territorial counterparts in Alberta this week to discuss issues affecting municipalities across Canada.

Chris Tibbs is scheduled to attend a meeting of provincial and territorial ministers responsible for local government beginning today, at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alta.

The gathering is organized through the Table of Ministers Provincial and Territorial Responsible for Local Government, a forum representing ministers from all 13 provinces and territories. The group works to support the success and sustainability of local governments while fostering dialogue among provincial and territorial governments, the federal government and other partners.

During the meeting, ministers will discuss several shared priorities affecting municipalities nationwide, including local governance challenges, growth and housing affordability, and infrastructure needs.

The annual discussions provide an opportunity for governments to collaborate on issues facing communities and to explore ways to support municipalities across Canada.
