Three arrested in connection with several thefts
The RCMP has recovered a quantity of stolen items and arrested three individuals in a theft ring.
On June 20 the RCMP received a report of break, enters and thefts at cabins in the area of Old Track Road near Spaniard’s Bay.
The investigation and tips from the public led police to a property on Pond Road in New Harbour, where a search warrant was executed. A large amount of stolen property with an estimated value exceeding $60,000 was seized.
Police recovered two utility vehicles, two all-terrain vehicles, three generators, one boat and trailer, two kayaks, two chainsaws, a television, and an assortment of tools and household goods.
The rightful owners of the vast majority of the items have been identified.
Three individuals have each been charged with 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The accused are 44-year-old Mark Laite of Victoria, 43-year-old Christopher McKenzie of New Harbour, and 49-year-old Harvey Pollett of New Harbour.
All three appeared in court on June 21 and were remanded into custody until their next court appearance on June 25.
The investigation is continuing.
