Thousands without power in St. John's

There is a large power outage impacting thousands of customers in the St. John's metro area and Bell Island.

The unplanned outage happened just before 3:00 pm.

Newfoundland Power is experiencing a problem with a piece of equipment at the Hardwoods substation. Crews are responding. There is no estimated time for restoration.

Some telecommunications services are also impacted.

Snow is falling in the area.
