Tender Process is Underway for Temporary Bridge in Marystown

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued an Open Call for Bids for the temporary bridge project in Marystown.

A temporary, pre-fabricated, panel bridge will be installed to provide direct access for local traffic, as well as maintaining emergency vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

In February, the Provincial Government announced that a temporary bridge will be installed in Marystown, while work continues on the replacement of the Marystown Harbour Bridge.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has previously noted that the permits required, through Transport Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, would take between 90 to 270 days to complete. Those permits have now been received and the tender process is underway.

The work on the permanent replacement of the Canning Bridge will continue in tandem with the preparations for the temporary bridge. Work is anticipated to begin on the temporary bridge in the fall.

Today’s announcement highlights an important step forward in opening the competitive process and highlighting the construction work to begin over the next year.”
