Tax on sugar drinks coming in September 2022

As of September, 2022 residents will be paying more for sweetened beverages.

A tax of 20 cents per litre will be imposed on drinks that contain added sugar such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, sports and energy drinks, along with prepacked contracted mixes.

It will not apply to diet drinks, 100 percent natural juices, medical drinks, meal replacement, nutritional formula, milk, and yogurt. The tax will also not apply to point-of-sale tea and coffee.
